A truck driver who appeared at the Providence Magistrates Court yesterday morning had an unpleasant surprise after he left $2M in his vehicle (GLL 3783) parked outside of the Police Station compound and discovered his money was stolen.
“Dwayne” who hails from Berbice had to make a court appearance for a traffic offence yesterday morning. His porter was not scheduled to work yesterday but suddenly called the man begging to come to work.
Kaieteur News understands that when the porter was picked up by “Dwayne”, he asked “So you walk wid the money?” to which “Dwayne” replied in the affirmative.
While he was in court, “Dwayne’s” porter was seen speaking to two men who had arrived in front of the police station in a gold coloured motor-car.
According to an eye-witness, he saw two men emerge from the car and subsequently circle the truck then enter it. After a short period they returned to their vehicle and sped off.
When “Dwayne” returned to his truck around 13:00 hrs, he realized that his truck door was broken into and that his $2M was stolen. The police ranks of the said station were notified of the incident and the porter was said to be in police custody.
One source stated that a car fitting the description by eye-witnesses was found in Mahaicony. Police are still conducting investigations into this matter.
