The big, bad man, who on Monday last beat his wife causing her actual bodily harm, yesterday begged Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to spare him jail time.
The defendant, Colin Andrews, after pleading not guilty, said, “Me and my wife are happily married. I neva do this before. I does wake up early in the morning and cook fuh she and carry she breakfast in bed”.
The magistrate then granted Andrews bail in the sum of $25,000 when he begged even more but this time in an effort to get off scot free.
He stated, “Your worship, I don’t have any money. I just do over she house. Please don’t ask me to do that; it’s like putting a blind man in a dark hole. I am making you a promise that I will return to court; this is my promise to you.”
Magistrate Beharry then cautioned Andrews that if he is to be sent on his own recognizance and does not return to court he will have to face the penalty of 18 months imprisonment. “I gon come back your worship cause I ain’t even want a month” he replied.
Andrews didn’t do all that begging for nothing; he was subsequently sent on his own recognizance and is expected to make his next court appearance on July 11.
