Police have expanded their investigations into the death of a 42-year-old man after a post mortem examination revealed that his injuries were not consistent with what was reported.
Ivan Backreedy, of Barrack Street, Georgetown died last Sunday after it was reported that he fell from a motor pick-up while travelling along the Yarrowkabra Trail, Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
At the time Backreedy was in the company of two other men. Police were treating the matter as an accident.
However, a post mortem examination was done on the body yesterday by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, who gave the cause of death as injuries to the head and broken ribs that are not consistent with a fall from the vehicle.
A senior police official has indicated that in light of the Pathologist’s findings, the case has now taken a different posture.
The official said that while no one was in custody up to last night, they will soon be as the investigation intensifies.
Meanwhile, Dr. Singh yesterday also performed autopsies on four other high profile police cases.
A Post Mortem Examination performed on the body of Andy Dilchand of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, failed to determine the cause of his death. The body of Andy Dilchand was found at his home on Sunday.
Relatives remain suspicious of his demise since he was one of the main witnesses in a murder that had taken place in his community close to two months ago.
Terry Wayne Jack, of Orealla, Corentyne River, died from hemorrhage and shock due to a gunshot injury.
Jack was shot while at the Orealla Police Outpost on Monday last.
Hemorrhage and shock due to stab wounds was given as the cause of death of Mahendar Ally of Kilcoy, Corentyne.
Ally was involved in an altercation with another man during a ‘bush cook’ on Monday at Toopoo, Albion, Berbice, during which he was fatally stabbed.
And an autopsy has confirmed that Clementine Fiedtkou-Parris of Robb Street, Bourda, died as a result of gunshot wounds she received when gunmen invaded her home last Thursday night.
The post mortem gave her cause of death as perforation of the lungs due to gunshot wounds.
