Though the unplayable Mackenzie Sports Club basketball court in Linden continues to affect the sport in the community, both Linden teams in the National Schools’ Basketball Festival (NSBF) have made it to the Division I Final Four of the Championships.
The Final Four teams in the Division I contest have been decided and competition in the Division II contest is ongoing. Mackenzie High School, which won the Victory Valley Royals tournament last week, and Linden Technical Institute are both in the Final Four.
The other two teams are Marian Academy and Kwakwani Secondary School. Marian is expected to play Linden Technical Institute and Kwakwani will play Mackenzie High in the semis of what has been an extended 2011 NSBF that went nation-wide.
In the Division II category, Tuesday, Trust College defeated Port Mourant 64-46 with Dominic Vincente dropping 18 points, seven assists and seven steals. Dellon Lewis supported with 12 points and seven rebounds. Antonio Aslam had 20 points and seven rebounds while Jaliyl Morian had 12 points and 13 rebounds for Port Mourant.
New Amsterdam’s Multilateral defeated Bishops High School 36-32 with Ryan Caesar scoring 11 points and grabbing four rebounds. Marin Durant scored eight points for Bishop High School in the Division II playoff.
In the Under-16 competition, Kwakwani Secondary dismissed Bobby’s Boys 71-27 as Leonard Primo scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Kwakwani. Shafeek Thomas supported with 16 points. Bobby’s Shaquille Griffith scored nine points.
