– Child Protection Agency
Up to press time yesterday the police and Child Protection Agency were still trying to ascertain the identity of the individual(s) who dumped a newborn boy on the Merriman Mall.
When contacted yesterday, Head of the Child Protection Agency Ms. Ann Greene disclosed that the baby was still being monitored at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) as doctors there were not ready to discharge him.
According to Greene, once the baby has been discharged they will place him in foster care and will be looking at the possibility of finding a family for him once his parents fail to come forward.
She added that the police are also a part of the investigation while her agency will do what they can to locate the parents.
At around 21:00 hours on Monday, persons passing through the area found the unclothed baby.
They wrapped the newborn in a jersey and took it to the GPHC’s Accident and Emergency Unit.
The GPHC staffers are appealing to the baby’s parents to present themselves. They are also seeking assistance from the public in this regard.
