Quick response by the police on Tuesday night led to the capture of three men and the recovery of a car they had hijacked a few minutes earlier.
The men were nabbed by ranks of a police mobile patrol who were alerted to the incident via the police radio network.
Police in a press statement said that about 19:55 hours on Tuesday, taxi-driver Carlton Jerrick, 50, of North East La Penitence, Georgetown, was attacked and robbed of his motor car at Meadow Brook Gardens by two men whom he had picked up as passengers.
According to the police, Jerrick had picked up the men at Vlissengen Road and was taking them to D’Urban Backlands when he was attacked by the two who choked him, put him out of the motor car HB 6228, and escaped with the vehicle.
A report was made to the police and patrols were alerted via the radio network.
This led to the car with the perpetrators being intercepted by a police patrol at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.
The two men are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
This recent success will certainly boost the confidence of the police who have been criticized for the spiraling crime situation in and around the city.
