– Young mother remains fearful for her life
The man who is said to be responsible for setting his Friendship, East Bank Demerara home afire on Thursday evening is still at large.
This is according to the man’s reputed wife, Cheryl Kattow, who is now seeking shelter along with her three children at a relative’s home.
Kattow said, yesterday, that while her husband is on the run she is fearful for her life and those of her children. The woman related, too, that she is more than willing to testify against her husband in the court since she is at her wits end.
Kattow said that she has endured eight years of physical abuse at the hands of her reputed husband but stayed because of her three children, aged nine months, three years and six years.
The woman related that the abuse started after she found out that her husband was having an affair with another woman.
“Every time I talk to he about the affair I does get licks and sometimes he would promise to change and he would behave for a couple morning and he gone back with this woman.”
Kattow said that given this recent incident the woman said she is now worried that her husband would come after her.
On Thursday evening Kattow’s reputed husband went to their Friendship East Bank home in a drunken rage looking for her. The woman hid under a bed in the house while the man kept threatening her cousin that if he found her (Kattow) he would kill her.
The man then began to trash the house with his three children in it as were another relative and her son.
The enraged man then doused the house with kerosene and set it ablaze. Kattow who was hiding under a bed eventually jumped through a window to free herself. Her children were rescued by the woman’s cousin.
Investigations are ongoing.
