Dear Editor,
This comment is in relation to the Sunday, June, 12, 2011 article, “A literary scholar on a noble quest, Prof. Daizal Samad is a ‘Special Person’”
First, I must compliment Leon Suseran on his well-written article. Although it is a very accurate description of Prof. Daizal Samad’s ingenuous career, achievements, and experience, it omitted one of his greatest attributes – his dynamic personality – his deep caring, concern, and love for people around him.
Though he has been known to be the best teacher at Cummings Lodge Secondary, lecturer at UG, and acclaimed professor across four continents of the world, this “best teacher/professor” and pedagogical award pales in significance to his ability to teach, guide, and positively influence those around him – multi-directionally: under (subordinates), peers, above (super ordinates) and the community.
This unique ability is probably his formula to get anything accomplished despite almost insurmountable barriers in the most impossible parts of world – heart of the Middle East and Africa. Or is it his incorruptibility dimension.
These are essential characteristics of a true, effective leader and we hope he would consider running for the highest office in 2016.
Berbice is fortunate and blessed to have such an efficacious leader.
Paul Mohan
