A post mortem examination performed on the remains of Mohamed Fazal Shaw, 51, has showed that he died from drowning. The post mortem was done by Government Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh, at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Shaw’s body was fished out the Demerara River on Saturday, behind Demerara Woods Compound.
Relatives yesterday told Kaieteur News that the doctor also found a wound at the back of the head. The police, according to the relatives, are continuing the investigation into the matter.
Relatives made the identification at the Lyken Funeral Home on Sunday.
Relatives had told Kaieteur News that Shaw was last seen on June 16, at Main Street. He was wearing a black shirt with stripes and black pants.
According to the relative, Shaw separated from his wife since February and was living with his sister at Nandy Park.
Some relatives are of the belief that Shaw might have been a victim of foul play.
A security guard attached to the Demerara Woods Company told Kaieteur News on Saturday that someone made the discovery shortly after noon. According to the guard the victim appeared to have been badly beaten.
He also stated that the man was clad in three-quarter pants, shirt and shoes. Police ranks were subsequently summoned to the area.
