A Linden youth who was recently released from prison is believed to be one of the bandits who snatched $600,000 and a firearm on Monday after attacking staffers from the Linden Utility Services Cooperative Society Limited (LUSCSL).
Police sources said that eyewitnesses identified him as one of the attackers, but detectives have been unable to locate him. Kaieteur News understands that the suspect is the son of a LUSCSL employee.
He was reportedly recently released from prison on a wounding charge.
Investigators also questioned the driver of the vehicle that was escorting the employees, but it is unclear whether he is still in custody.
LUSCSL security supervisor Veronica Fontanelle and an armed security guard from the Linmine Secretariat were taking cash to a bank when two robbers attacked them at Burnham Drive, Wismar.
Fontanelle was gun butted after she refused to hand over two money-bags.
The security guard, who was also beaten, was relieved of his firearm.
The bandits escaped on foot through Poker Street.
