– James among three US-based Guyanese
The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) has named four athletes; three based in the United States of America, to compete at the Pan American Junior Championships in Florida, July 22-24 with local quarter-miler, Stephan James also making the grade.
The athletes identified included sprinter, Kadecia Baird, hurdler, Ayana Amsterdam, long jumper Rolyce Boston, all based in the United States, and James. The four-man team has the full support of the AAG, who’s President, Colin Boyce said he expects them to do well.
“The performances of the athletes are exemplary and I expect a whole lot from them. I think this could be one of our best representative teams,” Boyce said, adding that two of the four athletes, Baird and Amsterdam, qualified for the World Youth Championships.
Boyce had indicated that if Guyana is to build a full-fledged team in the future then it is time that the country begin tapping into its best local and overseas-based athletes to form a formidable unit that will be able to compete at the highest level internationally.
