Three years after husband’s murder…
Three years after Clifton Wong and seven other miners were slaughtered at Lindo Creek, Mrs. Collette Wong is still awaiting information about her husband that could provide closure to the emotional wound her family carries.
The grieving widow stated that DNA sample was taken from her late husband’s brother and was sent to Jamaica where it would have been analysed along with the forensic evidence gathered at the crime scene by police.
Mrs. Wong stated that she is aware that everyone has to die but the manner in which her husband met his end is heartbreaking.
The widow revealed that the absence of a proper funeral service and the opportunity to see his body are painful.
When Kaieteur News visited Mrs. Wong yesterday, the woman was home alone trying to escape from the painful memory of spending Father’s Day without her husband.
As a matter of fact, the children do not spend any special occasions at home since his death.
Fighting tears and trying to maintain her composure, Mrs. Wong described her late husband as a family oriented person and while many fathers prefer to be treated on this special day he did the opposite. Preparing meals and all the preparation necessary for a spectacular day were undertaken by him.
Though Mr. Wong was a good provider for his family, Mrs. Wong was always independent so after his brutal death she was able to sustain her family. The Wongs also receive assistance from family members and friends who remember them.
The strength and role of a man in the home became Mrs. Wong’s and she is trying each day by the will of God to be strong for her family. The woman revealed that her children are not strong and they miss him a lot.
“The home misses a father figure. I always believe there should be a father at home and my children had a wonderful father,” Mrs. Wong stated.
On June 21, 2008 the burnt remains of Dax Arokium; Cedric Arokium; Clifton Wong; Lancelot Lee; Compton Spires; Horace Drakes; Bonny Harry; and Nigel Torres were discovered at Lindo Creek camp where they were mining for diamonds.
No one has been charged for the gruesome killings, members of the Rondell Rawlins, ‘Fine Man’ gang were blamed.
