The battle line has been drawn, the die has been cast, the arena has been prepared, the horses entered and all ingredients are in place for the grand one day Guyana Cup Fever Horserace meet organized by the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet Stables at the club’s entity situated at Bel Air, No 6 Village West Coast Berbice today.
One change has been made to the elaborate programme planned by the club with the H class race being replaced by a Race for I3 horses with one win. Nine races are listed on the day’s card and the heat is expected to be on as none of the races will be over 1200m.
The prize monies remain over $5M along with trophies at stake.
Over 78 horses have taken entry in what is expected to be a scintillating day of racing.
Once again the main feature is for horses classified B and lower with Beverage giants Banks DIH Limited once again taking charge of sponsorship for the main event with a massive injection of $1.2M and trophy. The first prize is a whopping $600,000.
With the event being 1200m all the horses entered has a fair chance but all eyes will be on Prince Charming, Ferry Landing, Home Bush Baby and the ever improving Marathon Man. However the other animals entered Stormy flame, Little Pannie, Bwana Dancer, Zelik, Chantress, Miss Orientate and Wad a Luck all are excellent runners and have had good gallops over the past week and can spring a surprise.
Better than Gold will be looking to maintain its unbeaten run in the co-feature event for three year old horses Bred and Born in the West Indies, but is expected to have stiff competition from Irish Girl, Big Impact, Work Force, Captain Crook, Gold Plated and Big Show. The winning prize is worth a sumptuous $500,000 and trophy.
Some more horses have been entered in the highly staked E and lower even for the $400,000 top prize and trophy. Zenola and the Baliff have been added to the already impressive cast of King Maker, Momzele, Home Bush baby, Sea Rocket, Dubai Duchess, Top of the line, Got to go and Pinch D Cash in the quest for the big money.
With $300,000 and trophy being the first prize in the event for three year old horses Bred and born in Guyana, Super Cat will be aiming to continue its winning streak and keen rivalry with arch rivals Wicked Intention, Princess Renuka, Royal Salute, JD Junior, Northern Junior Kevin, Natural Mystic and Ranch Baby.
The two year old race will see the newcomers to the track racing over a distance of stance of 400M, also for a $300,000 winning. Those entered are Pride and Joy, Happy choice, Serenity, Settle in Seattle, Little tip top, Come dance with me, Times have changed, Speed girl, Zoom Zoom, Sonya door and Baby Flyer.
The G and lower sprint has a first prize of $300,000 with Stormy Deal, The Gap, South Sea, Pixie Fire, Top of the line, Got The go, Miracle run, Harry dream, Five Star general, Ginger bread and Story Lass and Stylish line set to battle.
The I and lower race with $150,000 as the winning purse has the Gump, Royal time, Quincy, Romeo, No body knows, Diplomat, Channel Boy, Sun Raiser, New World and Royal Champion.
The winner of the race for 13 horses with one win, will race away with $140,000 with Ravi B, and Infinity, Little spike, Kevin, J.D Junior, Northern Junior, Extra heat, Indian Flag, Pleasant surprise and Pinky all in contention.
The other races listed for the day’s programme is the division 1, 2 and 3 gallop with a first prize of $120,000.
Reports out of Bel Air state that a lot of improvements have being done to the facilities, while the track is in excellent condition.
