The Northern Hogg Island Primary School has been closed for several weeks and the pupils have no place to obtain academic education.
Parents told this newspaper that about 25 pupils are enrolled at the school and one teacher has been appointed . The teacher rarely visits the school and when she does she sends messages to the pupils to announce her arrival. The classes for a day sometimes run from mid day to 2 p.m.
The residents claim that this has been going on for a long time and despite complaints to the Region Three Department of Education nothing has been done.
No pupil from the school has written the National Grades Two or Four Exams that was written in the Month of June 2011.
The parents claim that there are no meaningful activities to engage the time the children spend at home while they have to labour in their farms.
This newspaper tried to make contact with the Regional Education Officer in Region Three (3) but was told that the Officer was unavailable. A male voice referred to this newspaper to the Regional Democratic Council but their phone rang out.
The Secretary at the Office of the Minister of Education referred this newspaper to the Education Officer at Brickdam responsible for Primary Education. That Officer promised to look into the matter.
Meanwhile, the residents are asking that at least two teachers be appointed to the school immediately. They are also asking for an investigation into the operations of the school.
