Dear Editor
The four-lane Sussex Street Bridge which is a phase of the East Bank Demerara roadway is about to be commissioned.
This is a welcome development. However, a very distressing administrative misstep during an earlier phase of this road project continues to torment the businesses and residents along a stretch of this road between the bridge at Independence Boulevard and the bridge at Ruimveldt, next to the Ruimveldt Police Station.
This stretch of roadway consists of about 12 feet of earth between the asphalted road and the trench on the Eastern side. It fills businesses and residences with an endless cloud of dust and when it rains, pools of muddy water.
This matter was discussed some time ago with the project engineer, Mr. Walter Willis.
Please Minister Robeson Benn, kindly correct this 12’ x 440’ piece of public misery. Thank you.
