– Shots fired, man dragged into car
Residents of Akawini Street, Section K, Campbellville, are alleging that a male individual was abducted at gunpoint at around midday yesterday by occupants of a silver grey Toyota Allion motor car.
Kaieteur News was told that two gunshots were fired in the man’s direction before he was beaten and thrown into the vehicle.
One eyewitness who spoke to this newspaper said that the incident started at Stone Avenue, Campbellville.
Kaieteur News understands that the civilian was seen running away from the occupants in the car.
“If you see how this man was running….like he running fuh he live” the resident said.
According to the eyewitness, the civilian ran across Duncan Street and into Akawini Street, in an effort to escape his pursuers.
The man reportedly attempted to run into a yard in Akawini Street, but the driver of the car skilfully blocked him with the vehicle.
This newspaper understands that at least one of the occupants in the car came out and started beating the man.
“They beat he in he head….and shouting yuh like talk, yuh like thief…must stop thief,” the eyewitness said. Seconds later he was dragged into the car which had lightly tinted windows.
One resident who also witnessed the incident said he heard a loud sound like a truck crashing and didn’t realise it was gunshots until the media came.
The man said he became so fearful after he saw what was taking place and immediately rushed inside.
Looking from his veranda door, the man said he saw when the civilian was being dragged into the car.
Repeated calls to Assistant Commissioner Seelall Persaud proved futile.
Up to press time the police were yet to confirm that the incident occurred.
