President of the Guyana Football Referees Council (GFRC) Alfred king lauded referees and assistant referees who successful completed the course at the FIFA Fitness Test held Saturday at Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.
The Test attracted approximately 60 referees and assistant referees from across the country.
King told the referees that there was no shortcut to fitness and he encouraged them to continue to train very hard.
Local Referees Coordinator Roy Mc Arthur said there was a high level of success by referees at the Test. The Test was conducted in the afternoon and according to Mc Arthur, that could have been a factor for the high success rate of the contestants.
Heavy rain earlier in the day had threatened to disrupt the programme but the run was held despite soggy conditions.
Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Fitness Instructor Lindley Langhorne supervised the programme with assistance from several senior football referees officials.
The Test was organized by the GFF in collaboration with the GFRC and provided the referees with an opportunity to improve their level of fitness ahead of local, regional and international matches. The third test for 2011 is scheduled for September 11.
Meantime, FIFA referee and assistant referee Stanley Lancaster and Dion Inniss were exempt from participating in the Test Saturday following their successful participation in the just concluded CONCACAF Elite Referees Course held earlier this month in Dallas, Texas.
Forty-eight officials from 15 countries in the confederation participated in the Course.
