Orlando Jaundoo, the prison officer who escorted fugitive convicted businessman, Krishna Paul Doerga, 52, out of the New Amsterdam prison compound at Penitentiary Walk, New Amsterdam, is back home and is in custody.
Jaundoo, who was serving a three-year sentence for fraud, left with the prisoner under the pretext of having him repair a sewing machine at the Prison Officers Recreational Hall and Sports club across the street, but ended up with him at Springlands and then in Nickerie, Suriname where they were captured.
Kaieteur News understands that the Prison Officer who was in custody in Suriname was escorted back to Guyana Monday evening, and handed over to Guyanese authorities where he was taken into custody. He remains in custody at the Central Police Station.
Jaundoo is a tutor and Literacy Officer at the New Amsterdam Prison where he tutored prisoners in literacy, numeracy and other classes, at the Prison Officers Recreational Hall and Sports Centre.
It is understood that he has access to certain privileges in conducting his classes. Recently, a number of prisoners graduated in courses of literacy and numeracy held at the Prison.
On Saturday around 13:30 hrs Jaundoo and Krishna Paul Doerga, a Surinamese National, exited the New Amsterdam Prison. It is understood that the Prison Officer was told that Doerga had a document to be signed at Springlands, Corriverton. He was escorted by the officer to Springlands where he, Doerga, signed one document.
The officer was then informed that Doerga had another paper to be signed and that was in Suriname. Using the ‘backtrack’ route at Number 78 Village, the two then crossed the Corentyne River.
They ended up in Nickerie where Doerga contacted a taxi he had hired. In what appeared to be a bid to escape, Doerga entered the vehicle first and tried to close the door and told the driver to drive.
However, the prison officer held on to the door and ended up in the car. A scuffle then ensued.
The driver subsequently stopped and related to Suriname police what transpired in his car. The Nickerie police arrested both men (the officer and Doerga). Officer Jaundoo then related the story to the police at Nickerie. The Suriname authorities then alerted their Guyanese counterparts.
Kaieteur News understands that Doerga, a Surinamese, cannot be extradited because there is no Extradition treaty that exists between the two countries.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
