The Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club will stage its ‘Guyana Cup Fever’ horserace meeting at their No.6 West Coast Berbice racetrack on Sunday June 19. Entries for the event close on June 12 and contact can be made with Gansham Singh on telephone numbers 649-3636 and 232-0219 and Compton Sancho on 690-0569 for entry and details of the activity.
A total nine races are carded for the day with $5M in cash and prizes on offer for the outstanding performers. The main event has been sponsored by Banks DIH and will feature B and Lower class horses over a 1200m distance for a $600,000 purse for the winner.
Other events include a 3 year old Open race for horses born and bred in Guyana and the West Indies also over 1200m for a first prize of $500,000, while the E and Lower event over a similar distance carries a $400,000 purse.
The two year old Guyana and West Indies bred horses race over 1400m will see the winner claiming a $300,000 prize, while the 3 year old Open for Guyana bred horses alone over 1200m, the distance for the other races, will see $300,000 at stake for the winner.
Other races are for G and Lower with $300,000 at stake, H and Lower with $200,000 on offer, I and Lower with $150,000 for the winner and the Division 1, 11, 111 race that has $120,000 at stake.
Most of the country’s leading racehorses are expected to enter and a competitive day of racing is anticipated.
The Norman Singh TC will stage meets on July 24 and October 23 being their next scheduled race dates on the horseracing calendar. The organisers are assuring fans that come rain or shine their meeting will go ahead because theirs is an all weather track and due to its sandy nature dry’s out quickly.
