A member of the Presidential Guard is presently in police custody following the discovery of crack cocaine on his person.
The Presidential Guard, who is attached to the Office of the President compound, was held on Saturday night with one and a half grams of the drug which he is suspected to be using. This was after police raided his home following a call from his wife.
This newspaper was told that the police responded to a call from a woman in Lusignan on the East Coast of Demerara, who claimed that her husband was abusing her.
When the police arrived they discovered that the suspect was a member of the presidential guard.
At the insistence of the man’s wife, they carried out a search on him and found the drug.
According to a source, the guard admitted that the drug was his for his personal use.
He was taken to the Vigilance Police Station where he is expected to be charged with drug possession.
He could also face dismissal from his job.
