Gwendolyn ‘Stealth Bomber’ O’Neil recently surrendered a loss by unanimous decision to Ljeoma ‘The Praise’ Euginine when the two fighters squared off in a six rounder of the main event of a card in Stone Mountain, Georgia, on Saturday May 28 last.
Dubbed the ‘Clash of Champions’ the card featured three women’s bout with the O’Neil/ Euginine fight being the main event.
A report in Women Boxing Archives Network (WBAN) revealed that Euginine won impressively, winning all the rounds on one score card while another judge gave one round to O’Neil. The third judge had O’Neil winning two rounds.
According to the report Euginine dominated the entire fight having the cleaner and more powerful shots. “Her jab and straight rights scored the most, but she did score some heavy uppercuts on the inside” the report said.
O’Neil also received kudos for her determination and grit, “Gwen was very game but couldn’t seem to get past Ijeoma’s long reach and crunching power.” Euginine entered the bout with a slight weight advantage of 226 against O’Neil’s 214.
Kaieteur Sport sought to have a comment from O’Neil but she was unavailable up to press time. However, we spoke with former local top boxer Darius Forde who said that he spoke with O’Neil shortly after she had returned to Brooklyn. He said that she felt that she had won the bout and would like to have a return encounter. Ford could not elaborate of O’Neil’s immediate plans for her career.
