The police have read a new capital offence charge to 58-year-old Desiree Jeffers who was charged with her husband’s murder in January.
Yesterday, at the Wales Magistrate’s Court the woman made an appearance but was informed that the initial charge will be withdrawn. Jeffers was initially charged for murder under the Criminal Offence Act, Section 100.
However at court yesterday, Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan re-read the charge but under the Common Law Act. It is alleged that between Wednesday January 19 and Thursday 20, last, she murdered Igris Bobb-Blackman. The charge was indictable and the accused was not required to plead.
Jeffers who is a citizen of the United States will make her next appearance on June 30 when the Preliminary Inquiry is expected to commence.
A day after Bobb-Blackman went missing his bound and gagged body was pulled from a septic tank at the back of a La Parfaite Harmonie house. The man’s body was discovered there by relatives who had mounted a search for him following his disappearance the previous day.
A post mortem examination revealed that the 33-year-old Bobb-Blackman died as a result of a fractured skull due to blunt trauma to the head.
This newspaper was told that from the examination, the dectective was beaten on his head with a heavy object.
His wife was subsequently arrested and charged.
