– police seek lone gunman

The police are currently looking for a lone gunman who walked up to Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara resident, Troy Crandon, and shot him once to the leg.
According to a police release issued yesterday afternoon, the incident occurred around midnight at South Vryheid’s Lust.
The police stated that Crandon who is a vendor was at the time escorting a female friend home when he was confronted by the gunman.
He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated and sent away. The gunman according to the police managed to escape. Several attempts yesterday to speak to Crandon proved futile.
Eyewitnesses to the shooting yesterday told Kaieteur News that the gunman pounced on Crandon some time before 23:00hrs.
The eyewitness said that the gunman was trying to rob Crandon but panicked after the man started to oppose him.
Crandon was shot in the leg and was taken to the hospital by his friend. The gunman escaped on foot.
Another resident said that it was only last month that bandits struck at a grocery store in the area and managed to escape with an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery.
