Twenty-year-old Dwayne Matthews, who unlawfully and maliciously wounded his stepfather, Sean Elexey, was charged with assault causing bodily harm, when he appeared on Tuesday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that the alleged assault occurred on May 28 at Stabroek Market. Matthews, who resides at 66 Robb Street, pleaded not guilty. Police Prosecutor Kevin London told the court that, Elexey told Matthews not to enter his fridge and take his beer. Matthews ignored his stepfather and did what he was told not to.
An argument ensued, and in the process Matthews reportedly lashed Elexey with the beer bottle causing him injuries to his face and shoulder.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police station and Matthews was cautioned, arrested and charged with the offence. The prosecution had no objection to bail.
Matthews was granted $75,000 bail and is expected to make his next court appearance tomorrow.
