Guyana will soon be exposed to Chinese traditional music to be performed shortly at various locations. This is being touted as the first ever performance of a Chinese Folklore Group, entertaining the Guyanese crowd.
China’s Ambassador to Guyana, Yu Wenzhe, along with the members of a well-known entertainment group, all the way from China, yesterday visited the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, where Ambassador Wenzhe explained that he knows that Guyanese are people who appreciate the various cultures and traditions and “enjoy peculiar forms of music”.
He stated that he was extremely pleased to have his fellow Chinese bring their “traditional and ancient songs and musical instruments” to give foreigners “a taste” of the Chinese life-style.
Ambassador Wenzhe said, “Music is an international language, it is universal. We (the Chinese) are glad to share our form, our talent.”
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, stated that with these forms of activities being brought into the country, many will be afforded the opportunity to be exposed to a variety and different cultures with traditions.
He said, “In many ways when we have things like these, people can appreciate the Chinese culture. There is one request.
When the musicians are playing their instruments, if possible, an explanation be given as to what they are using, since the instruments will be very unique and most of the people would have never been introduced to them.”
