‘WE DID NOT RECEIVE ANY MONEY’ – KLASS

As the saga continues in relation to the alleged paying out of monies to member countries of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) in return for votes, Guyana Football federation President Colin Klass has clearly stated that Guyana did not receive any money. Klass, who is now CFU Vice President (Ag), with Cpt. Horace Burrell of Jamaica President (Ag) disclosed that Guyana was represented by Vice President Carlos Prowell and General Secretary Noel Adonis at the CFU’s May 10-11 meeting (which has now been deemed controversial) in Trinidad and Tobago where it was claimed that more than US$40,000 was handed over to certain CFU members to vote for Asian football chief Mohamed bin Hammam who was contesting for the FIFA’s presidency, but he subsequently withdrew from the race and incumbent Sepp Blatter was elected unopposed for a fourth term, yesterday.
The CFU VP noted that despite the challenges the Caribbean is now faced with, “It is much stronger now than before.”
The Trinidad meeting has been cited as part of allegations of wrongdoing by Warner and Hammam, who along with CFU officials Debbie Minguell and Jason Sylvester have been suspended by FIFA’s Ethics Committee pending an investigation.
Meanwhile, Barbadian Lisle Austin is now the President of CONCACAF (Ag).
And Barbados Football Association Council Member Mark ‘Bob’ Forde said no approaches were made to the Barbados delegation which attended the CFU meeting.
