– Guyana’s, D’Andrade finishes second
Senior national Trinidad and Tobago distance runner, Richard Jones shifted from his characteristic smooth and composed technique yesterday to produce a scintillating bottom-end burst that gave him a win in the Rainbow Toyota 5km Road Race.
Jones outsprinted an impressive field that included Lionel D’Andrade and Pamenos Ballantyne, who are among the best distance runners in the Caribbean. Jones finished in 16:04 seconds for the win with D’Andrade (16:08) and Ballantyne (16:14) taking the other podium positions in that order. “These are the kinds of races that make us believe that we can produce quality competition right here in the Caribbean. I am happy with this performance and it just proves that I am getting more better with time,” D’Andrade told Kaieteur Sport from Tobago.
The race was held in Tobago and had around 76 starters in the male race. Guyanese, Kelvin Johnson finished fourth in the race in 16:58, while Oslyn Collins won the female version of the race, summing up an impressive overall performance for the Guyanese.
