The Demerara Life Group of Companies Independence Day Golf was won by Roy Cummings on Thursday at the Lusignan Golf Club.
Despite tough conditions due to overnight rain, Cummings, who won last year’s Digicel Classic, shot a net 68 from a gross 80 playing off a 12 handicap to secure victory against 34 opponents.
Esau Shamshudin copped second position with net 69, while Lusignan Golf Club President Brian Hackett finished in third place with net 71.Nearest to the Pin was Mike Mangal, while Mohanlall Dinanauth had the best gross of 74. Demerara Life Group of Companies Client Service Manager Kueka Franklin said her company is a regular sponsor of golf locally and she assured the players that Demerara Life will continued its support to the Lusignan Golf Club.
Franklin said she was heartened by the response by players who braved the weather.
Club President Hackett applauded Demerara Life, one of the oldest insurance companies in the Guyana and a long-time sponsor of Club for its stanch support.
Meanwhile, the focus this weekend is on the Safeway Security Medal Play tournament set for Sunday at the Club starting at 09:00 hours.
