A 29-year-old woman who allegedly stabbed a Jewel Coates who allegedly stabbed a man with a broken bottle was remanded on an attempted murder charge after appearing before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry last Friday.
Police prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that the accused, Jewel Coates, and the complainant, Michael Balkarran were at a shop when Balkarran saw Coates spit on another customer.
He told Coates that she had done something wrong, and an argument allegedly ensued.
According to the Prosecutor, the accused picked up a bottle, broke it and stabbed Balkarran in the chest.
He was taken to the hospital and the accused was later arrested and charged.
Prosecutor Telford also stated that the complainant is still hospitalised and he requested another date for a report on Balkarran’s medical condition.
Coates was then remanded to prison and is expected to make her next court appearance on May 27.
