– as five injured in three-vehicle smash-up
A mother and child were among five persons who were injured at around 19: 15 hrs last night during a three-vehicle crash on La Bonne Intention (LBI) public road.
Kaieteur News understands that two of the occupants of a Nissan Titan GLL, 2785 were taken to a private hospital in the city.
The driver of Toyota AT 192, PJJ 3382 was identified as 43-year-old Clifford Ifill of Prashad Nagar. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) since he suffered severe injuries to both legs.
However, the driver of the Toyota Allion fled the scene after removing the number plates from his vehicle.
Kaieteur News understands that one of the vehicles also struck a mother and child who were walking on the parapet. They were taken to the GPHC.
One of the vehicles also uprooted a utility pole.
According to reports, the driver of the Toyota Allion was speeding while exiting Estate road, LBI onto the public road and clipped the back of Nissan Titan GLL, 2785 which was also travelling at a fast pace and heading toward Georgetown.
Reports further revealed that the Nissan Titan then lost control and swerved onto the parapet, uprooting a utility pole and injuring a mother and a child who was in a stroller. The Nissan Titan also slammed into a parked Toyota AT 192, injuring the driver, Clifford Ifill, who was just about to enter the vehicle.
His wife, Sharon Ifill, said her husband was returning to his car after purchasing items at a supermarket, when he heard a screeching sound behind him.
He tried to take evasive action but the pickup struck him. One of his legs was pinned under the vehicle.
He was admitted to the GPHC.
