As police on the Essequibo Coast continue to put the pieces of information they have since acquired in the murder of 70-year-old, Victor Warner, they say the man’s 21-year-old son and another suspect remains in custody, 72 hours after the incident occurred.
According to police the 21-year-old has since given a statement. Law enforcement officers also questioned other family members.
Sources say that the 21-year-old, who recently returned from Venezuela, resided at Richmond Housing Scheme with his mother and other siblings and was at his father’s place both the day after and before he was murdered.
This newspaper was informed that the young man frequently visited his father’s residence and shared a mutual relationship with his father and other siblings. The relative said that the son in custody, slept at his mother Richmond home on Wednesday night and even when a neighbour informed the young man’s mother about the his father’s murder, he went and assisted his siblings until police arrested him later in the evening.
Both men, police say, will remain in custody, until they are further confronted with evidence that would exonerate them.
At presently both men are denying that hey killed Warner.
Warner’s death which created a furore among the business community, occurred on May 16, last. Police said the 70-year-old businessman’s body was discovered next to his refrigerator in a foetal position, by his two grandsons, Kevin and Navin.
The brothers went to the home after calls from a neighbour went unanswered.
The businessman sustained injuries to the back of his head and face. A hammer and a spanner were discovered by ranks.
Police said that a post mortem would be performed tomorrow.
