A 37-year -old labourer was on Friday, last, granted bail after being arraigned on the charge of damage of property.
It is alleged that on May 19, in the vicinity of Wellington Street, Woldford Lee damaged the window of a motor vehicle owned by Keith Barker.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry before whom he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Police Prosecutor, Jairam Luckai, stated that about 23:15 hrs the VC parked his vehicle on Wellington Street when the defendant threw a brick and damaged the windscreen. The prosecutor had no objections to bail.
When the defendant was questioned by the Magistrate as to what took place, Lee explained to the court that on the night of the incident he was about to be robbed when he acted in self-defense by throwing bricks at his attacker.
The defendant then told the court that one of the bricks bounced off a wall and went directly to the vehicle damaging the window.
Lee, who has never had any trouble with the law, was granted bail in the sum of $25,000 and was given two weeks to repair the complainant’s window. He will make his next court appearance on June 10.
