Heavy favourite Jason Ray Khalil had to come from a set down to defeat a vastly improved Steven Xavier when play in this year’s Woodpecker Products National Junior Squash Tournament continued, at the Georgetown Courts.
The tournament which is being used a basis to select the national junior squad to contest the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships saw Khalil and the fans experienced a momentary shock as Xavier took the first 11-6.
It was a clear indication of how much he had progressed since the last time the two met and everyone anticipated a keenly contested match.
However, the more experienced Khalil held his nerve and even though the second stanza proved once again to be struggle for him with the game tied at 9-9, he managed to pull through and take the set 11-9.
With the momentum in his favour, Khalil found it much easier in the next two sets, exhibiting a higher quality of squash to eventually prevail.
