…carry away millions in cash, jewellery
Yet another robbery has taken place on East Bank Demerara, this time in Golden Grove New Housing Scheme. A family lost millions of dollars in cash and valuables after armed gun-men invaded their home.
Surajdai Jaipaul (Kavita) of Lot 666 Section ‘C’ block ‘Y’, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, told Kaieteur News that on Thursday evening, she was at the back of her one-storey concrete house “pumping water” into her overhead black water tank when she noticed one of the four bandits in front of her.
Due to the noise from the pump and the fact that entire yard was covered with sand she could not have heard anyone walking in her yard.
Her little daughter had just finished showering and was inside of the house when three bandits entered through the back door. One of the perpetrators brandished his gun in front of Jaipaul’s face motioned her to remain quiet.
He took Jaipaul into her house while one of the armed gunmen pushed her daughter behind her. Inside the house they demanded her valuables.
“Where the chest?” one of them asked
The “chest” was actually a safe in which Jaipaul and her husband kept their money. Jaipaul’s husband is a self-employed businessman who purchases and sells fuel.
Jaipaul was shocked when she heard the bandits question her about the “chest” since only a few immediate family members knew it existed and no stranger was aware that the family had a safe in their home.
She told Kaieteur News that she denied having a “chest” and they “began to behave bad, waving the gun” but they did not fire any shots or touch Jaipaul or her daughter.
They (the bandits) ransacked her home and located the safe that contained $3.7M which they took away along with two cellular phones and her jewellery.
The ordeal lasted a few minutes and the men made good their escape on two motor-cycles.
One neighbour told this publication that she and her husband were inside of their yard when they saw these four men “pull up on motor-cycles that were CG motor-bikes” in front of Jaipaul’s residence.
They did not think anything of this since the Jaipauls would usually have guests.
The neighbour said that since they did not hear a sound while the men were in her yard, they did not realize that a robbery was in progress.
It was only until after the men had gone back on the motor-cycles did the neighbours hear Jaipaul’s screaming that the men were thieves and that she had just been robbed.
The neighbour told Kaieteur News that her husband immediately “jumped on his bicycle” and went to notify the Golden Grove Police ranks.
It was reported that the police ranks acted promptly but were unsuccessful in locating the bandits.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
