Preparations are moving apace for the Berbice Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with other Corporate Business entities in Berbice, second annual inter agency 10/10 softball cricket competition and fun day set for May 29 at the Albion Community Development Centre, Corentyne.
So far a number of teams have taken entry in the one day knockout cricket extravaganza.
According to coordinator, Republic Bank New Amsterdam branch manager, Imran Sacoor, the activity will take a different format this year. He stated that apart from the softball inter agency cricket competition, a number of exhibition soft and hardball cricket matches will also be played. Other novelty events are also on the cards which are expected to end with a grand stage show.
According to Sacoor, they have decided to undertake the venture again because of the tremendous success it garnered last year and with that they have decided to add the new features.
The organisers are hoping that each and every business and cooperate entity in Berbice including the military and Paramilitary participate in the day’s activity in someway.
Reiterating his previous sentiments, Mr Sacoor said that the initiative is to foster and gain better working relationship amongst Companies and other business entities in the county. He stated that since sports serves as a sort of medicine in this regard they feel that it is the right way to go and it will be an annual feature. The organisers are also using the occasion to get workers out of their officers and their daily stress of work for a day of relaxation and fun.
When the initiative was taken last year, some 15 teams participated in the competition which lasted two days with the final a third place play off being held on a separate day at the Scott Church ground in New Amsterdam after the preliminaries were held at the Albion Community Centre.
In that final a Guysuco X1 had defeated a Berbice Media eleven by seven wickets to take top spot.
Among the teams entered so far are Oldendorff Carriers, Banks DIH Limited, Guysuco, Republic Bank, Metro Offices Supplies, Nand Persaud and Company Limited, Regional Administration Region 6, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Limited, New Building Society Limited.
Teams are asked to register early and contact can be made through telephone number 333-3324 for more information.
