Rickland Hutson, Director of Evelyn’s GOAL learning Centre, on Thursday presented the Eagles United Football Club with sporting gear, including football boots, balls and other paraphernalia.
He also presented a computer, books and several other items including two lawn mowers to the Christianburg Youth Sport and Culture Association(CYSACA).
Lindley Langhorne, Senior Physical Education Officer for Regions Eight and Ten and Vice Chairman of the Christianburg Youth, Sport and Culture Association, accepted the contributions on behalf of the Eagles United Football Club, and the Culture organization.
He expressed gratitude on behalf of both organizations, and the hope that Hutson’s benevolence would be emulated by others, both within the community and without, who might even be in better positions to assist.
He noted that the items donated would go a long way toward helping youths in the Christianburg community both on the field and in the classroom.
Other members and executives of CYSACA also expressed their pleasure and gratitude for the gesture, especially since Evelyn’s GOAL is a relatively new organization, which has not begun to attract any significant sponsorship as yet.
Hutson is an overseas-based Guyanese, and former member of the Eagles United. He told those who were there for the presentation that he had made a commitment 19 years ago to return and do something for Christianburg, which is his home.
He exhorted recipients to care the equipment, and to put everything to good use.
Evelyn’s GOAL which means ‘Getting Organized And Becoming Leaders’ was a dream of Hutson’s mother, Evelyn, who firmly believed in youth empowerment through education.
Her passion for community service saw her establishing the Hutson Foundation that helps underprivileged youths moving on to High School and College.
Her son, Rickland, took her dream one step further by establishing Evelyn’s GOAL Learning Centre, one of the pioneer instructional facilities that offers developmental and educational opportunities to young gifted student/athletes in the Region.
It will provide an inspirational and professional environment for them to reach their full potential both on and off the field and in the classroom.
Evelyn’s GOAL Learning Centre is located at the Christianburg Multipurpose Hall, which is also called the Christianburg Community Centre.
