The Amerindian community of Moruka, North West District appears to becoming a very dangerous place to live with yet another killing engaging the attention of law enforcement authorities there.
But while there have been a few recent murders the latest incident which took place on Tuesday appears to be an accident, with a farmer from the village of Kariako, Moruka being fatally shot by his son.
Police in a press release stated that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Alvis Matthews, 45, which occurred about 06:00 hours at Karaiko.
According to the police, their investigations have so far revealed that Matthews, his son and another man were in a boat preparing to go hunting when a round was discharged from an improvised shotgun that was in the son’s possession.
Matthews was hit to his back and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect has been arrested and the improvised shotgun seized by the police.
The police also expressed their appreciation for the assistance given by the Toshao of the village in this matter.
