– as brother s’ brawl ends tragically
An Essequibo River man is likely to face a manslaughter charge following the death of his brother, who succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Tuesday, two days after a lighted stove was thrown at him.
Thirty-six year-old chainsaw operator, Orin Cornelius, sustained severe burns about his body after he became engulfed in flames following a heated argument with his brother.
The incident occurred around 14:0 hours on Monday at their home at Karrau Village in the Essequibo River.
Divisional Commander David Ramnarine confirmed that the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and is cooperating with investigators.
According to Ramnarine, investigations have revealed that the two brothers were imbibing and went home heavily under the influence of alcohol.
At home they were engaged in an argument over who was the better fighter and it was during that argument that one of them picked up a lighted stove and threw it at the other.
Within seconds Cornelius became a human torch and even his father who was nearby could not save him since he too sustained slight burns about his body.
However, the father was treated and sent away, while Cornelius was initially admitted at the Bartica Hospital before being transferred to the main public health facility in the city.
However despite the best efforts of doctors there, Cornelius died.
