As a requirement for the Professional Development II Course in Social Work, final year students were tasked with the responsibility of conducting a six-week workshop with employees of the University of Guyana.
The sessions which were held in the Lower Auditorium of the Learning and Research Centre of the University saw facilitators Annette Ferguson, Esprene Liddelle, Sonya Missigher, Sherene Mohamed, Fidel Pitt and Sherri-Ann Vandeyar, focus primarily on the issue of “Domestic Violence”.
Participants were educated on the types, causes, consequences and solutions to Domestic Violence, with their centre of attention being on assertiveness and self-esteem building.
During the sessions, participants were engaged in open discussions, and according to the facilitators with the relevant information provided, the expectation now is that persons will not treat Domestic Violence lightly, but realize that it is everyone’s business and all need to do their part to realise its elimination.
