Dear Editor,
I share the concern expressed by Stella about the future of Kaieteur News, but Stella should know that all employees owe a duty of good faith and fidelity towards their employers and should act only in the best interests of the company.
If an employee is entrusted with responsibility and access to sensitive information and manipulated such information in a manner that rendered the company vulnerable, such action be prejudice to his employers business and in breach of his employers faith in him.
And, if the employer continuously allow his employee to undermine the employer’s authority without sanctions, it becomes more difficult to discipline that person based on the doctrine of promissory estoppels, which in essence precludes the employer from relying on a legal right if his inaction has lulled the employee into believing that the right would not be relied on.
In other words, if an employee continues to disobey lawful instructions without being so discipline, that employee may subsequently consider he is indispensible and become more arrogant in the process of employment.
Any responsible employer should not tolerate such behaviour, and the publisher of Kaieteur News, known for his generosity, should assert his authority as a matter of principle, and arrest any indiscipline or he may regret it later.
