Help and Shelter will be initiating the fourth community launch of its child protection project in Sophia tomorrow from 3pm at the Pattensen Multipurpose Centre, near to the International Convention Centre.
The aim of the project is to promote the rights of children through the provision of support services and public education. The project complements the other work being done by Help and Shelter to provide counselling services for children who have survived abuse, and to provide public education and advocacy to prevent the abuse of children. The specific objective of the project is to promote children’s safety in four communities: Hague and Zeelugt in Region Three; and Sophia and Good Hope in Region Four, through community-based actions which will improve the lives of children who have experienced abuse and violence, and through prevention education.
The community launch of the project will be based on an interaction between community members and other stakeholders about the issues specific to child protection in Sophia and to identify possible solutions which could be implemented through the project, and through involvement of other agencies.
This launch will also include an interaction with the Childcare and Protection Agency.
This project is funded by the European Union with co-funding provided by donations and through support of the Concerned Citizens against Domestic Abuse based in Atlanta.
