Dear Editor,
If any Guyanese was on the sideline trying to determine how to vote, I believe we all have made that decision after watching PNCR’s Presidential Candidate‘s, David Granger’s live interview on Bibi Narine‘s program ‘Time Out‘, on Sunday 10 April 2011.
A friend who resides at Grove, East Bank Demerara made me aware of the interview. He called me at about 11:30 a.m, insisted that I watch the program, so I tuned in from the start, and was captivated to the end.
Ms. Narine appeared, intense and very professional with her questioning and in every response the viewing audience was rewarded with answers that were pointed, frank, sincere and sound. Granger took command of the interview and dealt with every question with a degree of confidence, which seems to define his ability to lead. In between the interview, I was calling my friend, a communications specialist, to ask what he thought about a particular response, and all he kept saying is that I can’t miss this next point, will discuss after. This is how Granger had Guyanese glued to this program. His knowledge of the issues and his genuine and intelligent response caused me to want to hear more from this man. I have to admit that I have seen other interviews with Granger and was impressed, but this interview was the one that really caused me to be sold out on David Granger. I believe it was the defining moment for me and many other Guyanese, who today have made that interview the conversation of the day. The PNC has found a stellar and excellent candidate in the Retired Brigadier. I am humbled to have been able to witness this moment, Granger is definitely Guyana’s only hope.
At the end of the interview, my friend called me and all he said was, “flawless, he came the full circle”. I asked him whether he was sold on Granger and he responded, “I have made my choice he is the man”. He went on, “the man has depth, seems unselfish and presents himself as being ready to lead”. He wrapped it all up by saying that David Granger has made the ultimate emotional connection with the masses. No one can doubt that he feels their pain. When he said this, I recalled that my seventy- two year old mother, who watched the entire interview, asked me, with teary eyes, what I thought of Granger. I realized she was sold on him and was merely seeking confirmation from a youth. Before I could have answered, she said, “He look like the right man”. This interaction with my mother and I may seem simple, but it tells me that the older folks are now seeking political direction from the younger generation, let us not let them down.
I ask my fellow East Indian brothers and sisters to reject the politics of Aapan Jhaat, do not vote race. It is time for the youths to guide the not so youthful. They are willing to follow our advice. Let us recommend David Granger to every Guyanese, Donald Ramotar and the PPP/C cannot be our option this time around, we all have suffered too much in the last few years. Remember also that Donald Ramotar is equal to communism and while we may be subtly practicing communism now, a Donald Ramotar in charge of the political order of things is likely to make us a full fledge communist state.
God help those who help themselves!
