Head of State Bharrat Jagdeo during a recent outreach meeting at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, had leveled an attack against Publisher of Kaieteur News, Glenn Lall. He accused Lall of being involved in backtracking of persons but evidence to support his claims is yet to be forthcoming.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon, when asked about the evidence of Lall’s involvement in criminal activities, said that there have been no such reports to the Guyana Police Force or its Criminal Investigation Department.
He said that given that no such information has been provided to the Police there was no pursuit of an investigation against Lall.
On Tuesday evening the National Communications Network reported Jagdeo as saying that the Publisher of the Kaieteur News was involved in illegal activities.
Addressing hundreds of delegates at the People’s Progressive Party’s (PPP) Demerara County Conference, Jagdeo launched an attack on Kaieteur News for alleged bias, racist and mischievous reporting.
Jagdeo told the gathering of party faithful that the newspaper was initially funded by the proceeds of backtrack operations.
“Our initial capital didn’t come from backtracking, as this newspaper has,” said Jagdeo. “This is not the Kaieteur News, it’s the back-tracker news and most of you wouldn’t know what I’m talking about.”
Lall bluntly denied the accusations. He said that he and the president fell out over corruption in Government circles. The president had also charged that Lall’s United States (US) visa was revoked. “But the American embassy should know why they revoked the visa from the person who owns the newspaper.”
Lall returned from the United States recently following a business trip to that country
Back on May 1, 2004 at Kaieteur News’s 10th anniversary celebration at Georgetown Club, President Jagdeo had painted a different image of Lall, one that contrasted starkly with Sunday’s.
At that time he had said, “We need more people like Glenn Lall. We need them in every sphere of life, especially in Guyana where we have few risk-takers.”
LISTEN HOW JAGDEO WILL MAKE ALL GUYANESE RICH!!!
