Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform ( PNCR) and Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition, Robert Corbin, is currently in Washington D.C. attending the World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings.
The first meeting opened yesterday. Mr Corbin is attending in his capacity as a Board Member of the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank, PNoWB.
Mr. Corbin was elected to the Board at the Annual General Meeting of the PNoWB held in Brussels last December. He will also participate in the quarterly Board Meeting of the PNoWB scheduled for today.
Scheduled presentations during the World Bank/IMF Spring meetings include those from the World Bank Africa Region, Vice-President Ms. Obi Ezekwesili; and World Bank Managing Director Ms. Mulyani Indrawati.
Issues of main focus include “IMF Crisis Response and Policy Changes Going forward” and “Global Economic Outlook based on recovery and beyond”.
A major concern of the Leader of the Opposition is the arrangements by the World Bank for monitoring the money received from Norway as a result of the Guyana/Norway Memorandum Of Understanding on Avoided Deforestation. Consequently, Mr. Corbin is expected to meet with the World Bank Representative for Guyana, Mr. Giorgio Valentini; Communications Advisor dealing with the Norway/Guyana MOU, Mr. Sergio Jellenik and other Directors.
While in Washington D.C., the PNCR Leader will hold other meetings with Guyanese and Party supporters. One of these meetings will be with the Washington D.C. Chapter of the PNCR on Saturday.
Mr. Corbin is expected to return to Guyana on Wednesday.
In his absence Chairman of the PNCR, Mr. Bishwaishwar “Cammie” Ramsaroop will perform the duties of Party Leader.
