Four heavily armed gunmen escaped with a canister containing an undisclosed sum of cash at around 17:45 hrs yesterday after holding up a vehicle containing a female security guard and employees of a company at the junction of the Ogle Airstrip Road and the Railway Embankment.
According to reports, the vehicle was being driven along the Airstrip Road when a car suddenly blocked its path in the vicinity of the Railway Embankment.
Four men with “large guns” exited and relieved the female special constable of her firearm.
Dragging the driver out of the vehicle, the attackers then drove away with the special constable and two employees, who they dumped out some distance away, before driving off the cash and stolen vehicle.
Up to press time, police were still hunting for the perpetrators.
