Wife-killer Parmanand Seepersaud succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation yesterday, one day after hacking his former spouse to death.
Seepersaud, of Alliance Road, Timehri, died at around 01:30 hrs in the hospital’s Male Medical Ward, where he was admitted after ingesting a poisonous substance.
The 42-year-old man went berserk last Saturday and butchered his estranged reputed wife, 26 year-old Gaitree Narine called ‘Lalieta’, after the woman’s lover dropped her off at Seepersaud’s home.
At Timehri, yesterday, there were mixed emotions for relatives and friends of both killer and victim.
Close relatives of Seepersaud’s were clinging to hope that he would have lived. He is survived by seven children. Also relatives and close friends of ‘Lalieta’ are also still in a state of shock over her gruesome death.
Both ‘Ramu’ and ‘Lalieta’ were well known in the Timehri community.
On Saturday morning last ‘Laleita’ current lover had dropped her off at her former reputed husband house along with her three children.
Moments later the couple was seen in a scuffle and Seepersaud then chopped ‘Laleita’ several times and left her lying in the yard. He then ingested the poison before plunging into a nearby creek. He was however pulled from the creek and taken to the hospital.
The couple had recently separated after living together for some eight years. Several attempts were made by Seepersaud’s relative to have Laleita return home.
Meanwhile, a post mortem is expected to be done sometime later today after which the body will be handed over to the relatives for burial.
