Chetram Jagnit, called ‘Surren’, 57, of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice lost his life Friday morning while jet skiing in the Corentyne River around 06:30hrs.
According to reports the man and a child were Jet skiing in the Corentyne River in the vicinity of Grant 1651 Crabwood Creek.
Reports stated that Jagnit was not wearing any safety gear or life jacket while the lad was clad in a life jacket. While riding the Jet Ski hit a metal punt which was in the water and lost control and went under.
The lad it was reported with the aid of his life jacket swam to shore and raised an alarm.
A search party was immediately mounted by residents in the area who searched the Corentyne River. Jagnit’s body was discovered around 10:00 hrs in the vicinity where he went down. He was picked up and taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A Post Mortem is expected to be conducted soon. Police are investigating.
