Maylene Singh, a vendor in the La Penitence Market allegedly lost some $118,000 in stock as a result of increased rainfall percolated through the roof of the market and subsequently flooded her stall.
The woman blames the city’s constabulary for the damages she suffered.
According to Singh, on Monday, the city council repaired the roof of the La Penitence market in an effort to minimize leakage through the ceiling of the market. Singh added that rain fell the night after the repair was done and drenched her stall.
The vendor described the works done by city council as shoddy since it did not assist in reducing excessive amount of rain fall from reaching into her stall but rather made it possible for extreme amount of rainfalls to make its way through the ceiling into her stall causing it to flood and moreover damaging her stocks.
“All my things wet up; my rice, my flour, milk and a lot more things, who will give me, back the money for these things” stressed the angry woman.
When this publication visited Singh’s stall water was approximately five inches deep and most of her goods were soaked.
