The driver of the hire car on the front page (HA 7807) was heading to Corentyne from New Amsterdam, lost control of the vehicle and almost ended up in a trench in the vicinity of Courtland Village, just before midday yesterday.
Luckily, the driver was the sole occupant at the time. In the midst of careening off the road, the car hit a utility pole. The pole snapped in two and live electricity wires were exposed on the roadway.
One resident, Felicia Fortune, said that her electricital connection, including the meter, was ripped off of its location at her home.
She told this newspaper that she does not know what appliances in her home have been damaged and is awaiting an assessment from the power company.
The driver, who is said to be from Stanleytown in New Amsterdam, luckily escaped with minor injuries and quickly sought medical attention from a nearby private clinic.
The police was summoned to the scene and they conducted investigations. Onlookers related to this newspaper that the driver was speeding.
