Police in Berbice are holding two men who they believe were the perpetrators of a daring armed robbery committed on business woman Rajpattie Ramnarace at Nigg Squatting Area, Corentyne, around 22:00 hours on Monday.
Ramnarace was robbed of $1M by two masked men, both of whom were carrying guns, just as she was entering her yard with her husband and three employees.
According to the police, the business woman, her husband Hemchand Gopaul, 60, and their workers Bharrat Latchminarine, 21, and Shivamber Latchminarine, 23, both of Belvedere Squatting Area, Corentyne, and driver Ravindradat Boudham, 27, had just arrived at their destination in a Motor Canter when the bandits struck.
Upon entering the yard, the business woman’s husband and the workers were confronted by the bandits who held them at gunpoint and ordered two of them to lie face down on the ground. As the business woman was entering the yard, she too was held up by one of the bandits who took away a black handbag containing the cash before both of them made good their escape.
The police were summoned and upon checking around the yard, a hole about two feet wide was seen in northern fence, confirming how the bandits were able to enter the property and lay in wait for their victims.
Acting on information the police quickly rounded up two suspects aged 20 and 21, whose description fitted those of the bandits who had carried out the attack.
